Any book that can give me even one or two helpful ideas is appreciated. I am not in the habit of reading books of this genre, but found this one super. I have recommended it to a number of folks, as it is so easy to read. The good ideas fall off the page with out sermonizing. Helpful anecdotes introduce each chapter which makes it lively rather than dry.Any book that can give me even one or two helpful ideas is appreciated. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. It is obvious Anne knows about being a rescue helicopter pilot in mountain country during winter storms. Her character development is also enjoyable. This is a fun read because of the truly excellent writing. I am also learning but in such an enjoyable way.
Ziya gives us the tools to either strip away our taken for granted assumptions about what is, or gives us new tools to see beyond our human limitations, or points us to look in a direction we seldom look. Fascinating. I highly recommend it.This is a fun read because of the truly excellent writing. I am also learning but in such an enjoyable way.

Reese Witherspoon as the somewhat jaded employment agency executive becomes involved with 3 refugees from the south Sudan. This movie reinforces my belief that people born in Canada won the birth lottery, through no action of our own. Reese's initial frustration with the lack of savvy these immigrants display gradually gives way to grudging respect and then something more ... commitment to other humans. It avoids being a syrupy movie as this is not about a noble white person emotionally opening to immigrants. The characters of the refugees are all different and as they integrate into the community they elicit responses that are probably pretty common to refugees and other immigrants. Responses that do not always reflect well on those of us born here. It is about survival but not physical prowess rather emotional and mental survival. It should also be noted that as we have increasing numbers of environmental refugees it is a movie that might help us understand what our culture looks like to people for very different ways of life.

This true account challenges us to look at an animal's life through their eyes, nose, ears, sense of being touched and feelings rather than our own needs of them. This account of love and giving by a human to a dog and then the dog to everyone is heart opening. There were some spots that felt repetitive so I just glossed over them, but not many. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have now ordered Following Atticus. This true account challenges us to look at an animal's life through their eyes, nose, ears, sense of being touched and feelings rather than our own needs of them. My husband and I were entranced by this movie. Shows the seamier side of life in India in an authentic rather than voyeur way. Opens a door to show the vulnerable lives of so many world citizens: fragility of a parent's ability to protect their children and earn a living, the strength of close family tie even in the midst of crushing poverty, the power of education and a real chance at life and the motivation to find our origins despite enormous odds. All of these themes wove throughout this film with great acting. Dev Patel is a brilliant actor and Sunny Pawar the young boy who plays the childhood role of Saroo is outstanding. However, this movie was more than the sum of its parts. It was a wonderful foray into what it is that makes us human through so many strands.
Showing the real families as they met was the final power of the movie at the end of the story.
I strongly recommend this movie for the whole family. I am pretty sure you will have a meal time discussion after viewing it together. My husband and I were entranced by this movie. Humbling story that highlights the arrogance of the "ruling" class, juxtaposed to the needs of the average person. Also, the continued ignorance and bad decisions that are made when distant rulers think they know better than the people living their lives, or that they can dupe them into thinking what the rulers want for themselves is good for the resident people. Also, the motivation and strength of character that love gives to people individually and collectively is beautifully portrayed. The end part that introduces us to the people the story was based upon is also an enriching view. It is an engaging story, well acted.Humbling story that highlights the arrogance of the "ruling" class, juxtaposed to the needs of the average person. Some of the best nature photography we have ever viewed. Dr. Sanyayan has an enthusiastic, compassionate connection to nature for all he is also an excellent scientist. Almost a boyish embracing of possibilities for the future that he calls "A new wild." This tuly captured both hope for the future as well as a somewhat condemning knowledge of the present. Emily has a lovely turn of phrase that often had me laughing. It is a romance not a deep story. I often enjoy this type of reading in contrast to research and deeper tomes that I also enjoy. I will read more of her novels as they are light yet sufficiently engaging. I often find romance novels have a lot of repetition of the light story line which is irritating. This story did not do that but moved fluidly forward.Emily has a lovely turn of phrase that often had me laughing. It is a romance not a deep story.
