The title makes this book sound light and fluffy, but it isn't! There was a murder attempt, art forgery and private eyes. There were also quite a few characters- extended family and crime suspects, so it didn't read as fast as it would seem. A gret romance, I enjoyed it.The title makes this book sound light and fluffy, but it isn't! There was a murder attempt, art forgery and private eyes. Amanusa is a simple hedge witch ekeing out a living in Transylvania when a stranger appears, telling her she is the first new blood sorceressin 200 years.
I was expecting this book to be very very dark, but there was actually quite a bit of romance and humor (especially from some of the English magicians). The magic of the world is very well-planned, with 4 branches of magic (alchemy, wizardry, conjury and sorcery). I'm looking forward to seeing more of the different magics in future books.Amanusa is a simple hedge witch ekeing out a living in Transylvania when a stranger appears, telling her she is the first new blood sorceressin 200 years.

The Empress of Mars is not a person it's a bar- the only place to buy alcohol on Mars. This book is less of a space opera and more of a western-small-town-takes-on-the-evil-railroad-corporation book in space. The characters are all unique (scientists turned bartenders, Italian playboys with a love of spaghetti westerns, ice truckers), and the customs the locals all stranded on Mars have come up with are really... Martian. All this, and an evil corporation you love to hate! The Empress of Mars is not a person it's a bar- the only place to buy alcohol on Mars. When the Earth discovered faster-than-light space travel millions set out to colonize new planets. What no one realized is that the trip would cause genetic mutations more alien than anyone could have imagined… I really enjoyed this book because it took humanity and made other people the aliens, whether because of physical or mental differences. When the Earth discovered faster-than-light space travel millions set out to colonize new planets. I gave this book to my brother to read. "There's a woman in a dress on the cover...," he said. No really, it's an amazing scifi book. "There's a WOMAN in a DRESS on the cover!" Three weeks later he was 5 books into this series. A Space Opera with drama, humor and compelling characters, I recommend this book as the best way to start Bujold's Vorkosigan saga.I gave this book to my brother to read. I enjoyed the writing and humor in this book very much, but felt the hero had been "toned down" from the way he appeared in the past. I also thought it took a little too long for him to notice very obvious and key facts about a certain other character.I enjoyed the writing and humor in this book very much, but felt the hero had been "toned down" from the way he appeared in the past. Often I find Tepper's work to be didactic, but "Grass" was a compelling read that I return to again and again.
I like how the book explores human assumptions about aliens, and how different creatures can relate to each other.

- To say that I met Nicholas Brisbane over my husband's dead body is not entirely accurate. Edward, it should be noted, was still twitching upon the floor.

If it didn't say "X-Men" and Magneto on the front you wouldn't know this is a Marvel comic. It's a look at the Holocaust from the very beginning of anti-Jew sentiment in Germany. As someone with family history involving this time I found this comic to be very hard-hitting.If it didn't say "X-Men" and Magneto on the front you wouldn't know this is a Marvel comic. Many romance novels only have one main female character, and any other women who appear are irrelevant or evil. Lisa Kleypas starts off this series by introducing 4 women who are all friends and want to help each other!
