Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda star in the wonderful 1941 Preston Sturges romantic comedy about a hustling con artist who seduces a wealthy man and bilks him, and then, without changing her appearance in the slightest, comes back a…

The ending spoiled it. No one could be that dumb.

Timeless classic. Funny. Emotional. More sophisticated and intelligent than most films being released today. Only problem: scratches on the disk around minute 86 cause the DVD player to skip and make the ending impossible to watch.

Great film. Barbara Stanwyck is magnificent and brilliant. Henry Fonda is great in gullibility. Marvelous writing and direction by Preston Sturgess.

Awesome, hilarious film. If you have relatives or friends who think old movies are boring, give 'em a load of this!

One of my all-time favorite romantic comedies. Hilarious script, charming cast (Henry Fonda is even better-looking than Stany), gorgeous Edith Head costumes... just top-notch entertainment. The Criterion Collection also has a nice intro…

GOOD 1941 film. The film production, acting, etc. were all quite good, but the dual identity plot line didn't work for me - kind of like how MGM's 1939 'Honolulu' plot didn't either. But plot/story line isn't everything in a film, and…

A well done (pre-war) 'screwball comedy'. (For women especially.) And with a very good commentary.

Can you imagine: Stanwyck and Fonda! No team could be better. Funny, they were so diametrically opposed politically that even with their opposite points of view, they were great friends and wonderful playmates. Them, plus Demarest and…

Few directors will have as many movies placed in the National Film Registry as Preston Sturges. "The Lady Eve" was his third movie that he both wrote and directed. In fact, he was the first writer Hollywood writer allowed to direct his…

Nonsense, meaningless, but enjoyable. Without any vulgar language or porn, which contemporary videos seem to think essential.

Henry Fonda and Barbara Stanwyck have rarely been better and never funnier. Neither would have more successful screen chemistry. Fonda is heir to a fortune and Stanwyck is a con artist that he can't help tripping over. The movie has…

Barbara Stanwyck is amazing in this film - a virtuoso performance. Some great plot twists, and an excellent closing line.
