I couldn't get past the first chapter in this book. The language and other "scenarios" were disgusting and offending. Definitely NOT a young person's book.

This book is amazing! The musical is very different so if you want that story, read the script. This build an amazing, complex universe with deep, rich characters who live full adult lives. All 4 books in this series are amazing! I'm…

I saw Wicked the musical and LOVED IT! I really wanted to read the story, and find out what happened after Elfaba and the soldier escaped and get all the details. You WILL NOT find that in this book. The screen writer for Wicked told a…

I am a 13 year old girl and like to read books about Witches and spirituality. I also saw the wizard of Oz movie and loved it so i thought I would read the Witches book and learn the wicked witches backstory. Unfortunately I read up to the…

This retelling of the 'Wizard of Oz' from the green Wicked Witch of West's perspective, served as the basis for the hit musical 'Wicked'. That being said, there's a great deal of difference between the literary novel based on the Oz…

This is a retelling of the story of the Wizard of Oz, from the point of view of the supposed villain of the original, the Wicked Witch of the West (Elphaba in the novel). I was familiar with the story from the Broadway musical version of…

This is not for young people! There was some very questionable and uncomfortable scenes in the book. However, the imagination that went into the story is amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed getting some back story on the wicked witch of the west.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!

I hate to give a bad review about a book that was made into an amazing musical, but I just couldn't do it - I think I read about 50 pages, and just hated every page, so I had to put it down. Perhaps it gets better, but I don't think so. I…

I heard a lot about this book from my daughter and her friends. They are late teens. But I went into reading this story with an open mind. For one, I never found myself feeling sorry for the Wicked Witch of the West. She was definitely…

The play must be the thing 'cause the book sure ain't. Could hardly get through it, genre keeps changing not a book for kids r/t sex especially (of course) - what else is new? MIght as well be The Poisonwood Bible for the way it handles…

This book is extremely complex, with many of the elements it includes parallel to our own society. I loved every minute of it, as I did the rest of the series.

I loved this book so much. I like how complex it is despite the themes being more obvious. Who knows though maybe that's what makes it so great!

As a foreign land is plagued by political turmoil and Animal cruelty, a misunderstood outcast fights to right the wrongs. Will she succeed, or will she just be seen as wicked?

I haven't watched the musical (yet!) so I don't know how it compares, but I enjoyed this book on its' own. It was heavy with political allusions, as well as major socioeconomic issues. The book was a bit dense and could be hard to…

If you love the musical, you might want to skip the book. They are completely different! Both are good, but in different ways. The book is a dark, meandering political fantasy tale, of a darker view of Oz. The prose is dense, but with a…

I only got halfway through, and that's because it was the only book I took on a short vacation. I don't like the characters and I don't care what happens to them.

I have enjoyed many of the books by this author. While they do take some time to get used to the writing style, they are a fun and often darker look into the backstory of fairy tale characters we grew up with...Cinderella, Wizard of Oz,…

The story is okay. I was expecting more of a twist to the story than what it actually was. I eventually grew bored and did not finish the last few chapters.

An amazing book with many political and historical references. It accurately shows the cruelty of children through multiple characters.

Wicked is definitely the best Gregory Maguire book I've read to date (I have 3 left to go, though). It weaves some subtle political and social commentary (from our own American current affairs, and past) into the well-known Baum Oz books,…
