This book has been described to me as "the best vampire novel I've ever read" by multiple people who've read a LOT of vampire novels. Originally published for adults, this YA reprint brings an original tale to a whole new audience. Read it!

SUNSHINE is one of my favorite books ever, and I sincerely believe it's one of the best vampire books ever written.

Yes! This is a sort of vampire romance story and Yes! I have not read every vampire book written but of the books I've read THIS IS THE BEST ONE! A complicated and interesting plot written by an author of fantasy fiction for over 30…

Sunshine works as a baker in her family’s small restuarant. One night she takes a solo trip to the lake and her life is changed forever. Interesting play on what makes someone good or evil. Great for fans of vampire stories!

I've never been interested in the vampire craze, but this book won me over. The development of a shaky friendship between the main character, who derives power from sunlight, and the vampire whose life she saved is a delight. The rambling…

Good read and the fact that I recall enough of the story to comment 4 years later should mean something. Not all black and white, blurring of good over evil. Humor mixed with self sacrifice. Mustn't forget the baking ;)

This book is amazing. The only downside is that you will want more books, and so far it's a stand alone.

This book is quite intense, but at the same time, there is a sarcastic humor by the narrator that prevents the story from becoming too serious. I also detect a certain degree of romance occasionally in the plot:). It is a classic and…

One of the only vampire books I love - the trope as filtered through the dreamy, imaginative mind of Robin McKinley. An adult read.

In a clear departure from her fairytale-based novels for youth, McKinley’s foray into adult fiction takes us into an alternate futuristic world where cities are still recovering from the Voodoo Wars and humans live in fear of the Others –…

My favorite vampire book and one of my favorites of Robin McKinley. The characters are nuanced and believable--not black or white, and not silly and sophomoric--unlike most of the protagonists of the rest of the genre. Like many of her…

Interesting take on vampires. I wish that she had written another book in this world as it left quite a few questions unanswered.

I do not like this book in the least bit

A different type of vampire story. The authors style of writing is very wordy. Not a bad thing but you have to pay attention. Haven't read anything before from this author but am willing to try another one.

A classic vampire fantasy. The setting for this is a really fascinating alternate version of our own world in the aftermath of a war between humans and Others. It's a standalone book, but the world and the hero, Sunshine, can really leave…

Because of all the romancey vampire books out there, I really didn't expect this to be very good, even though it was written by Robin Mckinley. I was pleasantly surpised. A very intersting, fun, vampire-unique read.

Best story with vampires in it, ever. This book is high on my list of bad-day, just-want-to-read-something fun books.

This book had potential. The characters had some substance to them, but the pacing of the book was a little too hard to adapt to. Some sentences were awkwardly long and grating to read. There were a ton of 'filler' pages that had little…

Honostly, This book took way too long to get to the good parts. I feel like i read 200 pages of her baking and living a boring life, and this got me nowhere and incouraged me so many times to just put the book down, but i knew i couldnt do…

Delicious! This is by far the BEST vampire book I have ever read. Aternating between the two very different lives of the protangonist (Sunshine the pastry queen and Sunshine the magician who is associated with vampires) the novel leaves…

A very good book - what I expect from Robin McKinley. Vampires are dangerous but can they be "good"? Slow to begin with but hard to put down once started. Wish there was/ is/ will be a sequel.

Yes, another vampire story but more cerebral than most. If you're used to action packed thrillers, it may take a bit to settle into this one. It has more to do with internal struggle than external, though there is still plenty of gory…

This isn't a romance per say, but more about a relationship. It is about the relationship between the narrator and herself, and the narrator and her perceived enemy. Be that as it may, this is a phenomenal book. Not many authors have the…
