Ms. Lippman presents the story of a woman who is contacted by the man who abducted her when she was a teenager. Instead of turning this complex story into one of sturm und drang this book has a reasoned, intelligent approach. I really…

This is my third Lippman and I'm batting .666. I've liked both of the stand-alone novels I've read; didn't like the first in her recurring character series. Elizabeth had been abducted and held captive for 5 weeks at the age of 15. It's…

Good book. I liked how the author jumped between past and present day. While I found some characters and storylines unnecessary I didn't find the book particularly slow like some readers complained of.

I really enjoyed reading this book. People familiar with the Elizabeth Smart story will realize it was probably inspired by that incident. One interesting thing I found is how much I came to dislike the "victim" as the story progressed. …

An easy read, but is it worth it? Not much insight for the death penalty, particularly as a deterrent. More of a lesson about self justification by flawed people. However, if you start do stay for the ending which kind of saves the book.

I enjoyed all the differing perspectives on the death penalty, and the feelings of the characters and the way they responded to trauma. Food for thought and an interesting read

I read this book in less than 24 hours. It was really easy reading and a great book! It is the story of Eliza who was kidnappeded and raped in the 1980's by Walter who is now on death row for murdering 4 other girls. Eliza moved and…

I did not find this a psychological thriller as the cover said, however I did enjoy the story of Eliza and her captor very interesting. I can imagine that there are tons of victims who feel the way Eliza felt about her captor in real life.…

I liked this book, despite the slower pace that was maintained throughout the body of the story. However, the end was worth the wait. It's not a huge, game changing ending, but it is just one that is well-suited to the story and the…

This book appeared on Stephen King's best of 2010's list. While I have had little luck with the "King of horror" choices, this is an exception. While the middle is a little slow the climax is worth the effort A good read!

A fascinating story of kidnapper/serial killer and Elizabeth, a teenage girl he kidnaps but leaves alive. Told in present day and in 1985, the year she was kidnapped.
