So tedious. I was trying to push through the boring action swagger, but the vague possibilities the book had weren't coming back around.

I was expecting more video games and fewer jihadists, but this was still a well crafted story - if somewhat more violent than I tend to prefer. I did appreciate the diverse cast of main characters and that both major female characters…

At 32 audio discs (almost 39 hours!) this book took me nearly 8 months to finish. I stumbled across this book while reading reviews for the book In Real Life. Online criticism of In Real Life complained that it touched on, but didn't dig…

It's a lot like reading an action-packed movie where you just can't BELIEVE what's happening every 5 minutes, so you stay engaged because you want to know how it ends! As long as you can suspend your disbelief enough to enjoy that kind of…

Hey, a dot-com billionaire, a Russian mafioso, a Chinese hacker, an Islamic jihadist, an English spy, and an Idaho survivalist walk into a bar… Actually, they don’t gather in a bar, but these are a few of the main characters in…

This is a rollicking adventure that goes around the world but in fact has some excellent action that takes place with detailed description a little corner of the Kootenays (not to mention Washington and Idaho). I've read it twice. Highly…

This is a long read (over 1,000 pages) but it's like a roller coaster ride without the dull parts. Lots of suspense and cliffhangers that will keep you turning the page late into the night.

From the Publishers Weekly review: "Stephenson (Anathem), the master of meandering, inconclusive plots.." Oh wow, one can certainly tell the reviewer has read Stephenson's books!

Loved this book, it was a little slow at the start but after the first chapter or so it had me hooked until the end.

This was a great book! So many unusual, and yet fully realized, characters, plus wild plot twists and lots of violent fun. Very different from Stephenson's other books (e.g. Cryptonomicon), but in a good way. I literally had trouble…

An excellent story! Lots of disparate characters come together for a final thrilling climax. Great stuff!

if you know anything about Blizzard this is a must read as you work your way through all the Stephenson books. The first major review of this book threw me off massively because, I think, the reviewer never logged on to WOW, ever. If you…

Not as dense as Cryptonomicon or Snow Crash but good as a page turning thriller.

Well plotted thriller. Well written page turner. Lacking the overarching theme or deeper text of other Stephenson books.

While it is not science fiction it still is a page turner. Set in the current day, it reminds me somewhat of William Gibson's latest books. People who loved Anathem for the ideas may be disappointed as there is not much in the way of…

Not Stephenson's finest work. A readable tale with elements of spy thriller and cyberpunk but a bit all of the place. The prose is often interesting but the story hackneyed, too obvious and the action overly obvious and too neat.
