A slow start, but soon picks up and then I couldn't put it down. Recommended to friends, a war story with heart and believable characters, on both sides of the fighting.

An ingenious book. The angle is unusual, the voice both intense and fun, the plot contains unexpected twists. Totally different from The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah, but just as good in its own way.

Written as a confession by Verity when she is captured by the Nazis, this is a powerful and sad story of her incredible friendship with her ATA pilot best friend, and how she herself became a spy and came to be captured.

Not "just another WWII novel." The brave, endearing, funny, and sincere female characters are so knowable, and their adventures and tragedies feel so tangible. One of the most cleverly written books I've read.

I don't generally like books about war. Nothing bores me more than a series of extended fight scenes. This, however, is a book about war that isn't focused on the fight scenes. And it is a fantastic read. This is the story of two…
