Vampires will never not be cool, but Holly Black took some common tropes to the absolute next level. The worldbuilding is fantastic, and Tana was a really entertaining protagonist to read about. No one sparkles in Coldtown.

Tana lives in a world where for the last decade, the rapid spread of vampirism has led to the erection of Coldtowns, quarantined ghettos for vampires and infected "cold" humans, in cities across the country. When Tana wakes up after an…
This book was alright, a bit of a wild rollercoaster with a lot of action and things happening all the time. However, I think I've been spoiled recently on some other books I've been reading and just had a very difficult time being able to…

I've just finished reading this book for the second time and it is now officially my favourite vampire book. The vampires are monsters, but not so monstrous that they aren't people too. They belong in that twisted Wonderland that everyone…

This book left me disappointed. I LOVE Holly Black. I think is is queen of YA fantasy and her writing is exquisite. That remained the same within this book. The world building was fantastic and her word choice, sentence structure and…

This was a well written vampire novel which I recommend to anyone. My one nit pick is that I found the romantic build up to be a little rushed and weak. Overall however it was an enjoyable read and show cased the darker sides of life with…

I am normally not into vampire books, though I love Holly Black as an author so I gave it ago. Putting a very modern spin on a vampire novel, it is an excellent read. Recommended for those even a little skeptical of vampire fiction.

I've honestly read MUCH better books and I didn't find anything about this book original. The main character was a little too much to swallow (some of her decisions were plain old stupid). I got mid-way through the book before I realized…

Though vampires have been covered a thousand ways, Black managed to create a fresh and original take. I was totally absorbed from the first page and routinely found myself rationalizing "one more chapter." The world and it's characters…

When I first got this book, I did not expect it to be about vampires, yet found that it was an amazing read. Unlike most other stereotypical stories of vampires, Holly Black shows this monster as it truly is in a great way. It had plenty…

In Holly Black's world, everyone knows that vampires exist, but most of them are confined to walled prison cities called "Coldtowns." Coldtowns are social media circuses that have all the parties and hedonism of Las Vegas and the danger of…

I liked the writing. Sometimes it felt so realistic for teenagers to act this way...especially Aidan and Aidan/Tana relationship at the beggining.
What I didn't buy is Tana almost ALWAYS falling for Aidan's tricks, always giving in.…
