Just finished this. It is a typical suspenseful. fiction of the 90s. A tough, rogue detective, main character Lucas Davenport is the star of the Minneapolis, Minnesota police force whom all the ladies love. Realistically he breaks the law…

I read the eBook version. The main character, Lucas Davenport, was too perfect. Women fell for him. He was manipulative totally disregarding rules of law by illegally breaking and entering suspects' houses. He invented games while off…

The best part was the taunting of the killer. Otherwise, too many cliches to really be believable.

Just re-read this book, the first in John Sandford's Prey series, nearly 30 years after its publication. It holds up remarkably well, despite the changes in technology and culture that have taken place. It's still a taut, gripping…

Davenport is not a role model!

Unlike his Virgil Flowers books, Davenport is a unlikable creep. Jumps around with women even though one of them is having his baby. He does unethical and illegal things, tampers with evidence.

This book was gross. It felt like the playing out of a teenage fantasy. "I was to be a badass cop who gets rich playing D&D and has a lot of sex." Violence and sexual assault can and should be depicted in fiction but it was handled so ham…

Slightly above average detective book and fast read. Rich detective driving Porsche who is good at solving crimes and is smooth with the ladies. Not much twist or plot other than Detective Davenport joining forces with another sector of…

5 chapters in and I am not into it. I'm not a prude but don't care for bad language when reading a book and this one is full of it.

This book is excellent, I highly recommend the whole Prey series to anyone who loves thrillers/mysteries or to anyone who is looking to try this genre. This book is an easy and fast paced read, so be ready for excitement! The cop talk…

First in the long-running Lucas Davenport series has Davenport on the tail of a serial killer who enjoys playing games with the police nearly as much as killing. As many have noted, this is a cliche-filled novel, and series--independently…

I liked it as the first in the series with Lucas Davenport. Lucas has his faults as the story progresses. The *horrible* villain preys on women. Lucas has sex with multiple female partners without commitment. For another gritty series…

This is my first John Sandford novel. The fact that his books are set right here in the Twin Cities is down right exciting! I feel like I am right there. I keep going "I know that place, I know where that road goes, etc." There is a lot of…

I enjoyed the book, the story, the chase, but I have to say that I didn't enjoy the character of Lucas Davenport very much. I'm not sure how many of this series I'm going to be able to read if the character doesn't become more likeable. I…

This book made me want to become a bestselling author - because if drivel like this can sell then I want to get in on the gravy train. Here's the formula: ignorant rednecks, guessable plot, predicable violence. I could go on but what's…

The Coolest male cop in Literature today. One of the Best Crime writers today, Yet He is under rated among His Peers. Read this Book and I promise you'll want to read the whole series. P.S Sandford is also the most consistent Writer…

I am working through Sandford's books but I didn't realize this was the first one of the Davenport series until well into it. Nice introduction to the great character

What an excellent beginning to a five star career. This is the one that compells you to keep reading, and reading, and reading...and never wanting them to end. Fabulous!

Quite enjoyed this one; plan to work my way through the "Davenport/Rules" series and check out Sandford's other works. This edition includes an author foreword/intro which provides interesting commentary on how the news gathering process…
