I recommend this book for parents to allow their children to read or even to read with their children. This book is a good read, it is very interesting and it keeps you wondering "what is going to happen next?" Young readers will enjoy this book and while reading, will not want to put it down. The few illustrations in the book also assist in intriguing the reader and leaving them wanting to read even more. I believe that parents would enjoy reading this book with their child/children as well. A child reading about a talking mouse in love with a princess would be very entertained and would enjoy maybe even acting out certain parts of the book making it that much more interesting.

I found it really hard to form a picture in my head of what's going on, and usually I can do that with ease. I found the story hard to follow given that it is told from three different perspectives. As much as I love books and regret saying this, I take no pleasure in admitting that the movie was better than the book. At least then, I could tell what was supposed to be happening. It's an interesting story nonetheless, but difficult to read, especially as it is branded for young readers.

I understand that this book is meant to be for younger readers, but it's just ot fair that "younger readers" get all the good books! That being said, this is my third time reading The Tale of Despereraux, and after three times, it has yet to disappoint me!

I just loved reading this book! I couldn't stop reading about all the adventures. I recommend this book to everyone who is a "bookworm". I personally enjoyed reading this myself.

I can't believe the average rating is only 2 stars. In fact, I can't understand why anyone would only give it 4 stars. A "must read" book for children of all ages, and well deserving of its award.

I had seen the animated movie before I was aware of the book, so I was grateful to find so much relational wisdom in Desperaux's interactions with his family, the rats, the princess, the king, and even the cook. The book reminded me of elements from "The Secret of Nymh". The mysterious challenges waiting for him in the dungeon, complimented by the hope of glory and love make Mr. Tillings adventures the most exquisite of stories. Though life may be dark at times, there is always light nearby.

This is a book with different stories about mice, rats, a princess and a very unfortunate girl who was sold by her father. These stories intertwine in order to tell a tale about a mouse who disappointed his mouse community and fell in love with a princess and lived happily ever after.
