I only watched a little bit. Didn't appeal to me. Nothing special. This is the series that precedes the movie, "Serenity", which was good, but definitely not great. I guess my standards are higher than other reviewers. Not worth raving over.

I was very impresses with the series when it was on, and again when I took out here. I wish they had of been able to continue the series as there was so much more they could have done with the story.

Here is hoping for movies to continue with it.
Fans for this show were behind it all the way.

Great fun !! And a reasonably developed sci-fi 'verse', based on the time-honored confict between empire and independence. So wierd that it wasn't picked up for another season !?! It is so much smarter and entertaining than many other series,.. maybe that's why (?). (It must have been badly scheduled and poorly promoted.) P.S. For an additional Firefly fix, be sure to catch the full length feature 'Serenity' ! (5-5-14: 1 ; 5-7: 7)

Joss Whedon an avowed atheist uses this failed series as all his productions to subliminanly project his totally disdain for God and religion. The pastor here is used as a constant foil of the captain, in one scence the captain refuses to let the pastor pray over an evening meal.

Mr. Whedon is also responsible for the Avengers movie, which was indeed entertaining over all but when it comes to the demi-god getting his 'come-uppance' he has the scientist turned Mr. Hyde really bash him good with a final parting shot of 'puny god'.

Just like Deadwood shut down by HBO for being too smart/GREAT...This is another masterpiece of a tv show that was cancelled. This time by the geniuses at Fox. Firefly is in the top series ever. Even if only for 1 season. @Blue...It was cancelled because american audiences have become too dumb for many great things: Movies, books, films, tv shows. So Fox promoted it wrong to appeal to the dumb. It then showed it out of order thinking the first episode was too dramatic and smart for the dumb. This led to the show not being seen that much, and then Fox not wanting to invest in something smart knowing full well it would not be appreciated by the masses..which is mainly made up of dumb. GREAT show. Borrow it, Rent it, buy it, see it. Revel in a GREAT show.

I don't understand why this was ever cancelled. What more could a person ask for- good characters, good acting with great chemistry, good stories and so much more that could have been told. Love this sci-fi/ western/ profiteers-with-a-heart-of-gold series.

Simply my favorite sci-fi tv series ever. Great characters. Great setting. Great acting. Both funny and touching while being exciting and surprising. Immerses you in its own unique sci-fi mythology. Fillion has never been as good before or since this series. Watching this and finishing with the motion picture serenity is sci-fi bliss. You will wish the series never got cancelled.

My son turned me on to this popular series. Never saw it when it first aired. It is even referenced on "Big Bang Theory". Unlike another commentator I enjoy the Space Science Fiction and Frontier Western amalgamation. Makes it fresh unlike Star Trek who stole a lot of their plot lines from Red Dwarf anyway. The doctor's sister gets a bit tiresome but otherwise the characters are engaging and entertaining. Great theme music too.

"The mix of furturistic science fiction with the old American west just doesn't make any sense"? I don't think that is true at all. The way the show is written and story is set up, you don't even notice that it is a blend of two diverse genres. Some people just fixated too much on the mix to really appreciate the show's plot and characters. I thought it was brilliant and I'm disappointed that the show was cancelled. The movie "Serenity", which picks up the story where the series left off, is also very good (and available on Netflix). Maybe if enough people are upset Netflix will bring it back? #wishfulthinking

Opening song:

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand.
I don't care, I'm still free.
You can't take the sky from me. Take me out to the black.
Tell 'em I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea.
You can't take the sky from me.
There's no place I can be.
Since I found serenity.
But you can't take the sky from me
