The ivory-billed woodpecker is thought to be extinct, but some disagree. Hoose documents the scientific and bird-watching communities’ attempts to find this lost species and save its habitat in the Southern United States.

An extinction thriller, full of great photos and graphics.

Hoose's narrative non-fiction account of the extinction of the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker and it role in the preservation movement in the United States is as astonishing as it is moving. Appealing to adults as well as younger readers.
