I used to love these books (and books on tape) when I was a kid. This one I particularly loved for my 4 year old. She is having some issues with honesty and this book brings up some really good issues about trust and truthfulness - everything is not all black and white like in many children's books.

I had never heard of this classic before, until I heard Melissa Harris-Perry discuss it on her show, so I got it for my four and a half year old granddaughter. I loved it because it shows how we need to be careful with friends as they don’t always have our best interests at heart. My only slight concern with the book (as with most children’s books) is that things aren’t always able to be worked out in the end, so another life skill to teach a child is to let them know that at times, it’s okay to walk away from a friendship that isn’t equal.
