Opinion

From Library Staff

Join the discussion on July 20, 2015. This 18-month diary, from January 1995 to June 1996, from one of the most distinguished — and beloved — actors of stage and screen, reveals the octogenarian spryness of a civilized mind and a beguiling mixture of the meditative and the hedonistic.

Guinness kept a diary from January 1995 to June 1996. His days include a lot of dining out, drinking, and seeing plays. He tells some delightful stories, and he makes droll comments, such as the one about politicians: They smile, but it seems they hold something sharp behind their backs.
