LOVE this book!! So well written that whenever Ella felt hungry, hurt, sad, or was having a difficult time, I seemed to feel it along with her. Amazing!

The movie is superficially based on the book.

And while the move isn't bad, the book is much much better.

I'm reading it to my kids younger kids; it's a great read for tweens and up.

Really loved this book though I do believe that the movie is a lot better. The story of Cinderella is re-told in a fun and intriguing manner full of excitement and adventure.

I absolutely loved the story. It's a great way of showing how the only one who can save you is you, and you have to find the strength within to do it. Sometimes it takes someone else to bring that strength out of you and that's what Char does for Ella unknowingly. Also, keep in mind the movie is not at all like the book, so you should probably read the book.

From behind me, Hattie shrilled, "Go to your room this instant. I command you."
I ignored her, but Char pulled away.
"Why won't you marry me? Why not, if you love me?"
"I'm cursed. You wouldn't be safe if I were your wife." What was I saying? I hadn't told anyone about the curse since I was eight. Mother had forbidden it. Had someone told me to?
No one had. Then why....
My thoughts wouldn't settle.

"The meaning, mama is that Ella does whatever she is told.I don't know why, but she does."
" Really?"
Hattie nodded.
" You mean she would have listened to me too?" Olive said.
" Clap your hands three times Ella." Mum Olga commanded. I clutched my skirt and stiffened my hands at my side.
" It will take a moment." Hattie said. "She tries not to. See how red her face is?"
I clapped.

Dear Ella,
Impatience is not usually my weakness. But your letters torment me. They are playful, interesting, thoughtful, and (occasionally) serious. I'm overjoyed to receive them, yet they bring misery. What I really long to know you do not tell: what you feel, although I've given you hints by the score of my regard. You like me. You wouldn't waste time or paper on a being you didn't like. But I think I've loved you since we met at your mother's funeral. I want to be with you forever and beyond, but you write that you are too young to marry or too old or too short or too hungry. You would charm Father, and Mother too. They would be yours completely. What a beautiful bride you'll be, whomever you marry at whatever age. Today I cannot write of Ayortha or my doings or anything. I can only post this and wait. Love (it is such a relief to pen the word!), love, love-- Char
