It's the 1972 Olympics and PLO terrorists have just kidnapped and murdered 11 Israeli athletes. After the tragic incident is over and several of the terrorists have gone free, the Israeli government of Golda Meir recruits Avner to lead a team of undercover agents to hunt down those responsible throughout Europe, and eliminate them one by one. It is physically and emotionally messy work, and conflicts between Avner and his team's handler, Ephraim, over information Avner doesn't want to provide only make things harder. Soon the work starts to take its toll on Avner, especially as it becomes clear that Avner is being hunted in return, and that his family's safety may be in jeopardy.

a wonderful cast and some good storytelling (with some missed opportunities to make it great) of the after-effects of a terrible event

I found the decision to make this movie take place after the events of Black September to work towards the films benefit, instead of taking it easy and make the film only about the terrorist attacks in Munich, Germany in 1972, it shows the horrible affect it had on Israel and the extremes that were taken to prevent more bloodshed. As much as a love this film, there are some things that helped bog it down, one thing in particular is Eric Bana's leading performance. He was Oscarbating throughout the entire film trying far too hard when subtlety was all the script called for, much like Jodie Foster in 'Nell', but apart from that, this does very well in conveying the absolute import retribution was to the Israeli government, and how the actions they took, make them no different than the monsters that killed 11 innocent men in 1972.

Fairly good. Violence begets violence.

F- for the PLO terrorists have just kidnapped and murdered 11 Israeli athletes. B+ for the DVD

Ended up not watching the movie. The description made it sound quite violent.

Totally fascinating movie, it made me go out and read the book it was based on,
Spielberg did a wonderful job of showing multiple points of view on this intense and emotional topic- and the burden of unintentional consequence. A fascinating, thrilling, and intelligent film. I highly recommend it!

Pretty thrilling movie. Revenge and violence dominate the movie, but there is much more than that. The life and humanity of the characters come into it.
