An early morning adventure out stealing horses leads to the tragic death of one boy and a resulting lifetime of guilt and isolation for his friend, in this moving tale about the painful loss of innocence and of traditional ways of life that are gone forever.

2007: Petterson has an amazing ability to mess with time and place through his writing - at least that's what it felt like when I read this story of an isolated man looking back on his life.

This Norwegian novel was pretty good, but could've used more horse stealing.
