striking out Jim Crow
Discrimination in sports
From Library Staff
Satchel Paige began his baseball career in the Negro Leagues in Alabama in the 1920s. For years, Jim Crow laws, which segregated blacks and whites, kept him out of the major leagues. But they couldn't stop him from becoming a world-class athlete.
Baseball, humanity, passion, and integrity. These are legion on the pages of this monumental comic story for anyone ages 0-Infinity. I can't recommend this book any higher.
James Sturm’s excellent graphic novel provides a powerful look at Paige and his times; with evocative artwork from Rich Tommaso.
