12:08 east of Bucharest
On the sixteenth year anniversary of the fall of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, a local anchorman of a nearby provincial town invites two of his acquaintances to share their moments of revolutionary glory on his talk show. One is an impish, insightful retiree who sometimes poses as Santa Claus, the other a henpecked, hard-drinking teacher who has just devoted his entire salary to his drinking debts. Together they will remember the day when they stormed their town hall calling "down with Ceausescu." Or did they?

In a small town near Bucharest, not only is it not clear what happened during the final days of dictator Ceaușescu, but if the old-timers who claim to have taken part in the events of 1990 were even there. Of course, there is the archival television footage...

“12:08 East of Bucharest” – Is this the time and place that that the heinous Romanian dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu, was ousted in a revolution to end the Stalinist period in Romanian government? The film becomes centered on a TV talk show, where two guests are asked about their supposed “heroic” efforts in leading the revolution. But callers in to the program suggest that rather than being heroes, one of the guests may have just been a drunk staggering out of a bar near the town square around the time of the revolution. The talk show becomes quite comedic when the host starts to realize that his show is unraveling before his eyes as his guests seem to be buffoons and not heroes after all.
