Great way to delve into your imagination about special powers. This was a novel like no other in the sense that you will "feel" the "sparks" and the "rain" and the "storms" around you as you read. The protagonist and the supporting characters just come to life in your imagination as you journey with them on a very important mission. Find out what happens when you are a Beaumont and your thirteenth birthday comes. *Wonderful leisure time reading.

OMG! Best book EVAH! I <3 LOVED this book soo much i had to read it again! its a bit sad and rather slow in the beggining, but it was AMAZING! i would recomend it for EVERYONE! <3
Great read aloud! The language is fun and bubbly. It is a great kids road trip story. My boys protested when I said I was going to read it but only because it is about a “girl” who is turning 13. They both ended up cuddling on either side of me with rapt attention. My oldest son is in denial about the possibility of his one day becoming a teenager and doesn't enjoy reminders of the inevitable. The treatment of “magic” or savvy as it is called in this book is light and down to earth. With magic abilities comes much frustration. Magic does not solve every little problem in fact it often creates more problems.

The beginning of the story was rather slow for me. (I don't know, maybe I'm just an impatient person) I really wanted to know what her magical power was, but when I finally found out ... the story became way more exciting from there. It's a really unique kind of power and it was interesting how she discovered it. All the characters were great. You really grow fond of them as you read more. I also find the thing going on between Mibs and Will rather cute. There are some surprises near the end, but I LOVE surprises so I guess that made me like this book even more. The only thing I didn't like so much in this book ... was that it was a bit repetitive with its words. For example: 'colder than cold', 'stranger than strange', 'cool as cool', etc. Maybe the author really wanted you to get the point or whatever, but I found it slightly annoying. Hahah, just my opinion.
