Opinion

From Library Staff

A huge teen dystopian smash, challengers objected to its religious viewpoint and being unsuited to age group. It's been made into a movie and is available in audio, ebook, Large Print and DVD formats.

By now you probably know the story of Katniss and the dystopian reality show fight-to-the-death, but let me tell you, it's wonderful on audio. The terrible gravity and injustice of this story is quietly expressed by the actor (as it really wasn't, quite, in the movie). First in a series. This tit... Read More »

My only complaint is that I started reading this book during an exceptionally busy week when I have a kazillion other things to do. I. Could. Not. Put. This. Book. Down. Thanks, Hunger Games! You make an epic procrastination aide. And this is coming from someone who used to think she didn't like YA or Sci Fi, let alone YA Sci Fi! Wow.

OMG I loved this book! It is filled with action, adventure, emotion and just the right amount of humour. This book easily made it into my top 5 series of all time. The characters personalities are perfectly balanced. When you start reading it is next to impossible to stop! Read this book and get ready for the ride of your life.

Read this a while back, just before the second book came out. I've since read them all and honestly? This is the best of the three. It starts slow and then revs up to eleven. Fast paced and crushingly unapologetic about the violence. This book does not glorify what is happening to the characters. You can feel the horror of it. I will say that the film version is more enjoyable to me because Katniss' internal monologue gets really grating at times, but the book is still good.

READ this book! before the movie if you haven't seen it. even if you have seen the movie, read this book!

Deep in the meadow, under the willow
A bed of grass, a soft green pillow
Lay down your head, and close your sleepy eyes
And when again they open, the sun will rise.

Here it's safe, here it's warm
Here the daisies guard you from every harm
Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place where I love you.

Deep in the meadow, hidden far away
A cloak of leaves, a moonbeam ray
Forget your woes and let your troubles lay
And when again it's morning, they'll wash away.

Here it's safe, here it's warm
Here the daisies guard you from every harm
Here your dreams are sweet and tomorrow brings them true
Here is the place where I love you.
