The Gargoyle
The narrator of this story is driving along a dark road when he is distracted by what seems to be a flight of arrows. He crashes into a ravine and suffers horrible burns over much of his body. As he recovers in a burn ward, undergoing the tortures of the damned, he awaits the day when he can leave the hospital and commit carefully planned suicide, for he is now a monster in appearance as well as in soul.

Narrated in the first person by a man who is badly burned in an auto accident. We never do learn his name. While recovering in the hospital, a beautiful and compelling woman appears at the foot of his bed and insists that they were once lovers in 14th century Germany. Marianne Engel is a sculptor of gargoyles and grotesques who may also be mentally ill. Their relationship evolves along with her storytelling of their past lives. Is she actually gettting messages from God or is she merely insane? Interesting subject matter, artfully expressed. Reader Lincoln Hoppe is excellent, but he didn't really have a female voice.

Awesome! One of the best books I have ever read. Ever. Never before have I read a book that so thoroughly encompasses my favourite topics; culture, history, religion, psychiatry, medicine AND food (the food porn in this book truly warrants an "X" rating on its cover).

The narration of the audiobook was top notch to boot. Lincoln Hoppes was the perfect choice.
