Russell Brand learned early on to make a joke of fear and failure. From a troubled childhood in industrial Essex, England, to his descent into addictions to alcohol, drugs, and sex in the seamy underbelly of London, Brand has seen his share of both and miraculously lived to tell the tale. In My Booky Wook he leads readers on a rollicking journey through his disastrous school career, his infamous antics on MTV, and his multifarious sexual adventures. But this irreverent memoir is a story not simply of struggle but also of redemption, a testament to the difficulty of discovering what you want from life and the remarkable power of a bloody-minded determination to get it. My Booky Wook is a giddy trip through the brilliant mind of one of Britain's most valuable exports.

Brand writes like Cher looks, circa 1980's! His corybantic voice rings through his crackerjack turn of phrase. Riveting are his insights into his self-destruction and restoration. His story is as intoxicating as a kiss from Molly. I'm hooked! - See more at: http://ottawa.bibliocommons.com/item/show/353002026_my_booky_wook#sthash.LKfA9czx.dpuf

Well, this is Russell Brand, so I wasn't exactly expecting dainty language and sensitive subject matter. Still it was hysterical, and oddly touching in places, I was interested to perceive him as a person who is often -- although not always -- growing and learning, and that was unexpected. He can be very self-aware, and a lot of that material is painful. He's indeed courageous to be sharing it.

Very funny book although sad childhood stories told and somewhat hard to understand at times but I think that is due to not being from England.

Not your typical tale of redemption, I tell you!
Clearly an intelligent chap, in desparte need of a haircut, with a garguantuan appetite for destruction. He has moments of deep clarity and humour on the human condition. His conquering of some of his demons was nothing short of miraculous-even inspirational. He has earned his proverbial second chance to leave bridges (and birds) unburnt in America. Go see the movie "Get Him to the Greek" then read this book- you will see it's Russell Brand playing himself.

Great book although some of the British references get lost in translation to North Americans. The character he plays in 'Forgetting Sarah Marshal' pretty much is the real him. Writes like he speaks - not grammerically correct. Can't wait or the next booky wook!
