What is the ultimate way for Thomas Lynley, eighth
earl of Asherton to escape his uppercrust disfunctional family?
Why become a 'common' detective of course!

Per Kirkus:/* Starred Review */ Awesome first-fiction venture that immediately thrusts the author into P.D. James' dark orbit--with a peel-the-layers-off tale of utter emotional devastation, relieved only by the deep sensitivity and kindnesses of the detective hero

Elizabeth George is one of the best mystery writers I have ever read. This book is the first in a series of books called the "Inspector Lynley" mysteries. Some of these were made into Masterpiece Mystery TV shows. The plots of her books are quite complex, however, the details are virtually without errors, i.e., very few loose ends! Because of the numerous characters and places in her books, I had to go to the Internet and find a website that provided a character development review to help me keep track of who, what, and where!! (That website is at, www.weeblesue.com) In my opinion, Elizabeth George is right up there with Patricia Cornwell, Tony Hillerman, and Henning Mankell (who wrote the Kurt Wallander mysteries).
