I'm in the middle of this book and wow... I just love it, i think by the time i finish it'll be another one of my favorites along with The Exorcist and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It has a disturbing yet whimsical feel that keeps you reading

What a weird book. Is it for real, is it fiction, is it science-fiction? Who knows. One thing's for sure, it's an odd book. All those weirdos. After a while you think they're the "norms", not the norms. Hard to get a grasp on why to write such a book. It baffles me. I was aching to finish it , but it was like moving in quicksand, interminable.

Just your typical creepy, unsettling, and wonderfully written dysfunctional carnie family saga.

This is one of those books that you can't wait to find out what happens next but force yourself to slow down because you don't want it to be over. Dunn's unabashed narrative gets gritty without being trashy and made my jaw drop which is no easy feat.

I love any stories about carny folk. This was a great one.

This is one of my favourite books! That probably says more about me than it does about the novel, but I nonetheless heartily recommend it. (If you liked the HBO show Carnivale, this may be up your alley.)

The novel is the story of a traveling carnival run by Aloysius "Al" Binewski and his wife "Crystal" Lil. When the business begins to fail, the couple devise an idea to breed their own freak show, using various drugs and radioactive material to alter the genes of their children. The results are Arturo ("Arty"), a boy with flippers for hands and feet; Electra ("Elly") and Iphigenia ("Iphy"), Siamese Twins; Olympia ("Oly"), a hunchbacked albino dwarf; and Fortunato ("Chick"), the normal-looking baby of the family who has telekinetic powers.

Product Description from Amazon: Geek Love is the story of the Binewskis, a carny family whose mater- and paterfamilias set out–with the help of amphetamine, arsenic, and radioisotopes–to breed their own exhibit of human oddities. There’s Arturo the Aquaboy, who has flippers for limbs and a megalomaniac ambition worthy of Genghis Khan . . . Iphy and Elly, the lissome Siamese twins . . . albino hunchback Oly, and the outwardly normal Chick, whose mysterious gifts make him the family’s most precious–and dangerous–asset. As the Binewskis take their act across the backwaters of the U.S., inspiring fanatical devotion and murderous revulsion; as its members conduct their own Machiavellian version of sibling rivalry, Geek Love throws its sulfurous light on our notions of the freakish and the normal, the beautiful and the ugly, the holy and the obscene. Family values will never be the same.
