"LIFE - YOU LIVE IT FORWARD, BUT UNDERSTAND IT BACKWARD."
Yes, absolutely, a five star book. I too struggled to get through this tome, but is was so fabulous! Helps if you have some interest in the medical field. But I have such a depth of perspective now that I did not have before - about each location, about people and relationships, about youth and age. Just a most amazing book. The narrator truly is outstanding. Every accent, every character a different tone of voice. Exceptional book to read/listen to. Highly recommended. I did have to check it out 5 times to get through it however!

This was an excellent audio-book. The narrator was exceptional. At first I thought it might drag a bit because of all the detail. After getting into it further, I realized it was all necessary to make the plot complete. I'm glad I persisted and listened to the entire book.

Five stars for this author and his book.

Enjoyed the reader and the book! Story of conjoined twin boys, cut apart at birth, the mother dying right after, the father/surgeon instantly leaving the country, and the two doctors who saved them during the birth raising them.

riveting all the way through. I listened as a recorded book . The narrator was perfect.

This was a very long book. Since I listened to it on CD I was able to really enjoy the journey of the characters. It was well written and so vividly described. Loved it.

I listened to this on CD at the recommendation of a coworker and many customers. I was not disappointed - the novel centered on subject matter outside my usual comfort zone (Ethiopia, an underprivileged hospitals, military coups, etc.). I was furious at Marion for some of the silly decisions he made regarding a certain female character, but the story overall captivated and educated me. Well worth it, and especially as an audiobook because the narration is superb.

Cutting for Stone
by Abraham Verhese

This is a great novel. Beautifully written. It has all the right ingredients: family, love, nuns, missions, medicine, dedication, compassion, historical facts... and much more. It takes place in Ethiopia and New York. This book is full of passion and is authentic. 541 pages well worth reading!
