Unlike other titles in this series, "1001 Books" offers very few duds and many hidden gems. The 1001 books are organized by year of publication in century chapters. Most of the books, all novels, are given a half page outline including remarks about the author. More prominent authors and books receive a lavish 1-2 page presentation with cover and author photographs. Many French, German, Russian and other 'foreign' writers are included but information on English translations has not been provided. Title, author and general word indexes are provided.
