Trella is not a captivating protagonist. It was difficult to relate and sympathize with her, she had no interests in others so why should we be interested in her? Mid way through, I started to figure out the twist, which kind of reminded me a bit of Invitation to the Game, which I finished recently. Overall, I found it dull and predictable.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were both believable and inspiring. It was easy to root for Trella as you can identify with her. Though the book started off slow it picked up and the twists and turns were unpredictable (gateway!!). I also really enjoyed how the author describes both the environment where they live and the scrubs and uppers place in it as well as how the society works, without being boring about it. I enjoy learning about the society as well as the characters, as this somehow allows them to become more believable. Though this book has a sequel (which I can't wait to read), it wraps everything up quite nicely. Overall, great book and I will be looking to read the next one.

A book to love. One of my favourites. Trella is a character that we can easily identify with, as she struggles with her place in society after being thrust from her zone of comfort into a role that will see her overcome the miscommunication and dismantle the hierarchy that has unjustly divided her society and kept everyone in what is effectively a prison. It's hard not to cheer for her as she grows into her new shoes, and the twist at the end is both unpredictable and comes with a significant message that sets the tone for the excellent sequel.

Loved this book and couldn't put it down. Trella is a compelling character who grows as she is put to the test. In some ways more subtle than the Hunger Games yet deals with similar issues.

This is a great book! Kind of slow for the first half but all the action in the last half makes up for that. I loved all the characters. Trella was a very strong female lead and I really liked that. Trella and Riley's relationship was also really nice to read about. Can't wait for the next book. I defenitly recommend this book to those who like YA, dystopian, Sci-fi, mystery.
