Cumberbatch is transcendent as Sherlock, simultaneously irritating, charming, and vulnerable. While the repartee is funny, the updated stories include grim moral dilemmas and violent situations.

One of the best shows on TV with arguably the best cast as well. I'd expect nothing less from the BBC. 10/10

Absolutely incredible! This is why I love BBC! A thoroughly entertaining series made even better by starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock and Marin Freeman as Watson. Benedict is absolutely incredible (and enchanting) in this. Highly recommended.

I, like some others, was apprehensive of this modernization of Holmes; losing the spooky Victorian atmosphere seemed like an inconceivable concept to accomplish successfully. But, I'm on the same page as the majority who've raved about this series: clever writers/creators; engaging leads (Benedict Cumberbatch & Martin Freeman complement each other nicely)... the whole package. I should have known -- the BBC hasn't disappointed me yet. FIVE STARS.

Martin&Benedict the dynamic duo! Fantastic and riveting take on the Sherlock series. You don't want it to end. Comedy, suspense, drama. Worth watching again and again same goes for season 2

A masterful contemporary interpretation of the beloved British classic, complete with lightning-quick wits and brilliant dialog. Sherlock Holmes and John Watson are made larger than life by the talented and dynamic duo that is Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. A must-watch!

Do not watch, unless you want to go completely insane from an intricate storyline, fascinating attention to detail, brilliant actors, chivalrous respect to the original books and troll writers.

One must wonder why British television seasons are so short; this first set consists of all of three episodes. A terrific updating of the Sherlock Holmes tales sets the characters in the contemporary era, in a London filled with social media, cars, and the fast pace of life. It's a testament to the writing and casting that they fit so very well into current society. Benedict Cumberbatch is ideally cast as Holmes, playing him as brilliant but deranged, and oblivious to so much around him regardless. There's a deviousness in his take on the character that perfectly fits in with Sherlock. Martin Freeman is a well cast Watson, a former Army doctor brought into Holmes' orbit. He gives the role a complexity that suits it, as he tries to keep up with his counterpart. As with previous Watsons, Freeman is a good foil to Cumberbatch as Holmes. The two leads have a great rapport, and it makes the three episodes flow together nicely. Rupert Graves turns up as a contemporary inspector Lestrade, bothered by the fact that he must occasionally call in Holmes for help. Mark Gatiss, the show co-creator, turns up as Holmes' brother Mycroft, running British intelligence. And we even get a Moriarty in the shadows for good measure. A pleasure to watch, though you might want to use subtitles on this. Holmes tends to talk quickly.

Brilliant. Fantastic. Amazing. The writing is so good you'll want to quote it. The acting is completely believable, and the characters are captivating. I especially like the camerawork, seeing inside Sherlock's head, zooming in on stuff, and actually watching his thoughts. It's true to the original stories... love it! I'm dying for the 2nd series.

Benedict Cumberbatch brilliantly portrays an arrogant, sociopathic Sherlock who is perfectly matched up with the very sensitive, yet complex, Watson, played by Martin Freeman. The two are an hilarious team. It's very fun to see these two set in the modern world which gives them all the technology of CSI to solve their cases. I highly recommend this series and am looking forward to Season Two.

Violence: People punch and hit and strangle other people. Blood is seen occasionally. Not gory; it's more thrilling than frightening.
