A "Sherlock" whose actor projects his voice like he is always "on" a stage, who is too young to have had any mysterious past, who has a computer-programmed brain rather than one based on exotic experiences, who seems to CRAVE attention rather than walk in the shadows... who is rude rather than reclusive... and what's this about hugging a landlady he hardly knows? This is a Sherlock-if-he-had-been-raised-in-daycare portrayal -- a far cry from AC Doyle's original brilliant creation. The plots are cartoonish -- Sherlock "solves" a puzzle simply because a woman wearing pink is going to carry pink luggage (blue luggage if she had been wearing blue, I suppose?). Sexist overtones with the ordering of the housekeeper BY BOTH MEN to serve them food, and the treatment of the only other female figure (detective) is overtly dismissive. Includes the now-obligatory discussion that a gay roommate is fine (of course).

My second-favourite TV series of all time. [Doctor Who is my favourite.] Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are excellent actors! Great supporting cast as well. Much better than Elementary.

For those of you watching Elementary, shame on you... this is far far far (by far) better. It is a great series and watching these characters develop and bonds grow is a lot of fun. The stories themselves are clever and updated. (And you just have to see how he gets "the hat")

AMAZING remake of old classics for modern day!

Cumberbatch is transcendent as Sherlock, simultaneously irritating, charming, and vulnerable. While the repartee is funny, the updated stories include grim moral dilemmas and violent situations.

Violence: People punch and hit and strangle other people. Blood is seen occasionally. Not gory; it's more thrilling than frightening.
