A self-destructive near-genius, Luther might just be as dangerous as the depraved criminals he hunts. Luther follows his own moral code as much as the rules of criminal law. But he quickly becomes locked in a lethal battle of wits with Alicea, a beautiful, highly intelligent mass murderer, and his decision-making process becomes increasingly murky. Luther's lonely path pulls him towards the very edge of temptation.

I loved this intriguing series about a detective haunted by personal demons.

A disturbed but talented genius, Luther is a detective who is willing to work outside of the law in order to bring violent criminals to justice.

The last of this excellent and very gritty English detective series. I wish there were more.

This is a very slick police drama, because it's BRAINWASHING us to think that a good black policeman doesn't need a gun to protect himself to make sure he can effectively do good police work period,BUT I DIGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the best shows out there. All the characters are so intriguing and complex. I pretty much watched all three seasons in a row 'cause it is so good!

Who doesn't think Idris Elba is one of the sexiest men alive? That velvety London rasp just makes it all the better. That being said, i just couldn't get into this one. I wanted to (beLIEVE me i wanted to) but the pacing was off and seemed forced. The plot was a bit ridiculous. The acting was decent and i agree with the reviewer that said it's a shame they didn't stick with the main story line or the mysteries. The side storys are just downright bad and completely unbelievable. All that being said, i will probably revisit this series in the future, in case i missed something. And hey, even if it's bad i get to watch that sexy man!

Ah, me. Luther, Series 3. Sigh. I've always felt that (with some exceptions) the British do television, especially dramas, much better than their American counterparts. For one thing, British writers and producers are not afraid to explore subject matter that U.S. creators have tended to sugarcoat, water-down or back away from entirely, supposedly to avoid the wrath of U.S. censors who are supposedly protecting the delicate sensibilities of American audiences. But one practice American television does get right that I wish British series creators would emulate is a full season run of programming. Luther Series 1 comprised 6 exciting, increasingly complex episodes. I loved them but found myself wishing for, at the very least, 6 more. Series 2 continued the tense and twisty story-lines except now they were compressed to 4 episodes rather than 6. Likewise, Series 3, essentially presenting Luther as a mini-series. Maybe I would feel differently if I were a British instead of an American viewer, but I find this practice enormously frustrating, especially if Series 3 is really meant to end the series' run. DCI John Luther and company are fascinating, compelling characters and the twists and turns of their fates--not to mention the loyalty of their devoted fans--deserve better than these 4-ep story arcs that rush us through too much too quickly. I really liked John Luther. I even liked the taunting, too-clever-by-half Alice Morgan. I would like to have been allowed more time getting to know them both.

Witty, dark and unpredictable--a good summation of the show and its titular hero, Detective Chief Inspector John Luther. Someone should go ahead and say this: how cool is it that in the role of the smart, charismatic cop, the star of this intriguing crime series is a black actor rather than yet another white guy? It's just a really nice change and the strapping, handsome, multi-talented and very British Idris Elba (who is also one of the show's Associate Producers) fits the role like a velvet glove. Elba gives the troubled yet dedicated John Luther warmth, intelligence and flinty humor, using his London accent, sexy grin, and soulful, very expressive brown eyes to great effect. Luther's strange bond and unnerving war of wills with implacable murderess Alice Morgan is a mind-bending joy to watch... but a word of warning: this program is NOT for kiddies or the squeamish. The atmosphere is nail-bitingly suspenseful and there are from time to time seriously violent and visceral shocks amid the plot twists. Still, if you're looking for a detective series that is gripping and offbeat, Luther is the one to watch.

I really enjoyed this series. Such a different approach, and how could you not LOVE that accent? He really steals the show. You just have to watch it. It's not like anything else!!!
