First of all, that old Nickelodeon spin-off does the books absolutely NO justice. Most of the episodes weren't even based off of any given book. Second, ignore what the blurb says, it's not really about the aliens. The series really carries strong morals. It not only puts you into the heads of animals, but shows you the more allegoric side of what it means to have humanity. While some books were weak-plotted and unnecessary, the series over all was astounding. It shows you a world (albeit filled with science fiction) that really could be ours, in the fact that it can be more terrifying than wonderful.
These were always my favorite books, and I can never get anyone else to read them 'cause people think they're too wierd. :(
