Opinion

From Library Staff

Shahrazade saves herself from execution by distracting King Shahriyar with stories. This brightly stylized collection of eight tales may be most appealing to older elementary and middle school students.

A great book to read aloud. Although simplified, this version still contains quite a few stories and requires the ability to remember where you were when you finished reading the previous chapter (especially if you've let a few days go by like I often did), so it's better suited for older elementary readers than the early graders. The illustrations are full of color and the binding is nice. It's a beautiful book. Of course, many of Barefoot's books are exceptionally gorgeous!

Some lovely illustrations in this book. Recommended.
