Young Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father's gruff stableman. He is treated like an outcast by all the royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him secretly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitz's blood runs the magic Skill--and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family. As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his first dangerous, soul-shattering mission. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to the survival of the kingdom.

I love fantasy books and I love this trilogy. The characters are so rich, especially Fitz.

To be fair-minded, I do have problems starting to read books by an author with whom I am not familiar. I did finish reading this book but I was disappointed. Doctor-at-Bass! T. A.

The first in my favorite fantasy series of all times. The characters are amazing and the writing style is gripping. If you read the first, you will want to read the next three, and then the related series (The Liveship Traders) and then the final chapter (The Tawny Man.) Please, do yourself a favour and pick this up!

An excellent, excellent series. The characters are well crafted, and the world is interesting. The protagonists moral ambiguity makes the series very interesting.
