Add a CommentI'm a huge fan of Varley's, so I began this book with delighted anticipation. It's written as well as his other novels, but it has an entirely different pace. I literally couldn't stop reading it once I started (in an immediate sense because I certainly kept reading his previous books). The sf premise is excellent, the characterizations are great and the answer he presents to the question about what would happen to our current societies if the supply of petroleum was threatened is brutally honest. A different, breath-taking ride of a story.
