Add a CommentGood read while waiting for next Kate book....author's website also has free short stories to read on-line.....check it out at http://www.ilona-andrews.com/ They recently signed a deal for more Kate books, and a new series!
Even though the story is not centered on Curran, the Beast Lord, and Kate Daniels it is still great. This story focuses on Andrea, Kate's friend, and Raphael, Andrea's boyfriend.
MP3 - Unabridged CD edition (July 31, 2012)
I really enjoyed Andrea's character - she is competent and not macho. And the book is funny! Roman had me grinning. Raphael seems almost extraneous; that's how fulfilling Andrea's character is, as written.
It IS as good as they say ... nothing short of top-quality UF! I’m so glad Andrea got her own book and would be thrilled to see a few more. BTW...attention Kate Daniels fans - this book reveals something important about Curran!!! It's very brief but it's there in black and white. While reading this I’m reminded why they are my favorite authors! I love how they always find a great balanced between no-holding-back action (in this case with some mythology), meaningful relationships, romance and humor. The Kate Daniels world is full of characters that I love to sit back and spend some reading time with. Since Kate is my fav I didn’t expect to love Andrea as much as I did but she sure is just as easy to admire. This book imo has a Kate-Daniels-book feel to it so it’s helped ease some of my pain over the ever-so-long wait for the KD #6 in 2013! Andrea is just as smart, funny, intense and confident as Kate except she’s more of an investigator, has this volatile rage issue when attacked, and grows furry breasts! I loved Andrea from the very first chapter and enjoyed how courageous she was even when owning up to her own mistakes and insecurities. Since this is not PNR I loved the inclusion of the many scenes with supporting characters and the relationships she has/forms with them. It was also great seeing Kate through her eyes because I will just never get enough of Kate. Roman, Ascanio, Barabas provide a lot of comedic lines. Especially Roman ... and isn’t he a delectable mystery! Definitely leaves readers wanting MORE of him for sure! Highly recommend. Always look forward to more and more from these great authors!
Ilona Andrews does it again! It was great seeing Andrea have a chance to be front and center. The dynamic Andrews builds between her characters is alway intriguing and engaging. I loved seeing Andrea go at it with Rafale. Expect to see lots of passion, hurt feelings, mini "revenge" schemes, and smashed goods. What's not to love? I gave this book 4.5 stars because there were a few instances were I lost interest and put the book down. I never stayed away for long though :)
Nice to see Andrea getting some play. She's a good character, and nicely reflects the schism happening in their world. Combining the two stories (there's also a Kate and Curran novella that ties in with the story) was an effective move to bring the multiple storylines together. As usual, the Andrews team does a great job of fleshing out the back story-- with a wonderful little twist for Andrea near the end.
