Ridley Scott has been hit-and-miss with me for awhile now. I loved THELMA & LOUISE, GLADIATOR, and MATCHSTICK MEN. ALIEN felt mediocre in its pacing. Then, here comes BLADE RUNNER to give ALIEN a run for its money. Talk about slow and long-winded! Considering some people cite BLADE RUNNER as a major source of inspiration, I always expected this sci-fi classic to have some excitement with a good strong philosophical message attached, but it was nothing but boredom punctuated with bits of nonsense. The point is what makes humanity humanity and do you have to be human to experience that, but the execution of this message is all wrong. Ultimately, it seems pretentious, not profound, and unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever be watching it again. Sorry, I just couldn't in good conscience recommend it.

Every three or four years I find myself revisiting this movie. I can't think of anything wrong with it and consider it superior to the original novel in every way. What does it mean to be human? Or alive, for that matter? I can't help but feel both sympathetic to both the bounty hunter and the hunted androids, both of whom seem haunted by the specter of futility of life, the decay of a degenerate world, and the reality-eclipsing desperation of flight and pursuit.

Yet another contribution to the American cult of violence (no wonder we are so hated in Iraq and Afghanistan)! The violence in such movies as this is testimony to wide-spread sado-masochism in our strangely liberal but oppressive civilisation. For those who are not damaged: beware! Movies like this are bad for your psyche.
Also, the movie, like the novel, has predicted badly. Los Angeles 2017 is not long away and so far looks nothing like this dark, cynical vision.

Fair sci-fi movie. But I don't find anything great about it.

this movie is as close to science fiction perfection as you can get. The cinematography is absolutely amazing especially for being close to 30 years old. Rutger Hauer gives quite possibly his best ever performance. The movie has a futuristic setting that is grim and gritty, yet incredibly breathtaking to look at. I would highly recommend this movie to everyone, but science fiction fans will fall in love with this movie. A must see.

Harrison Ford excels as the central role, though the supporting cast lends the whole a sense of cohesion. Haunting, beautiful light jazz music always makes me think of sad rain. This is both an action, sci-fi movie on the surface, and a thought-provoking query aimed at the core of human nature.

A highly complex and metaphorical sci-fi film.

Batty: I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain. Time to die.
