I really enjoyed this book. Even though the outcomes were predictable, there were a couple of twists and turns in the lives of the four main women which I didn't see coming. I loved the idea of the setting, a small coastal community in Ireland.

Very slow. Meanders through the lives of 4 women with no real plot and nothing much happening.

I almost made the mistake of putting this book down, thinking it was too "sweet". When I kept reading, I found I really enjoyed learning more about each character, and caring a lot about what happened to them. I think I'll look for more books by Cathy Kelly. She reminds me of Maeve Binchy's tales in some ways.

She had a sense of foreboding too, a feeling that all was not well in the world, so it shouldn’t have been a surprise when the letter arrived as she got ready to open up the post office that morning.

Suki liked being near the sea. There was a claustrophobia in being landlocked. Sea and trees, they were her lodestones.
