I agree, not as good as the glass castle. Still it's a nice light summer read. Finished in a day

I liked this book but didn't love it. Probably because I'm comparing it to the Glass Castle, which is an absolutely fabulous book. A quick and enjoyable read. The characters are great, as is the dialogue.

Completely predictable and un-engaging. Nothing can only go on for so long. Slowest plot line I have ever read. Or not read, I returned it at chapter four. zzzzzzz
I found the dialogue unrealistic.

This book was a bit of a disappointment. I had read Walls' other two books and thoroughly enjoyed them. They had depth and direction, whereas this one sort of meandered all over the place. The story follows two sisters over the course of a year, a year where they are abandoned by their mother, taken in by their long-estranged Uncle, victimized by a big-shot in town, and integrated into the world of a small Virginia town. The characters were not as developed as I was expecting and the whole writing level seemed to be aimed at the YA group. However, a good quick read for a rainy afternoon when no real engagement is required or wanted.

This was a quick-read. Half Broke Horses was,by far, superior to this latest offering. It is more suitable to a teenager.

Entertaining, easy going read. Compared to Walls' previous books, its more like a sketch rather than an actual fleshed out novel.
