Item Details

I have a meanness inside me, real as an organ. Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "the Satan sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas." As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived--and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer.

Opinion

From Library Staff

All of Gillian Flynn's books are twisted tales that are totally tantalizing to listen to.

Did not like this book much. I agree about the narrator, she was not very likable. I felt like she was unwilling to move on with her life and wanted others to support her. After she connected with The Kill Club she did start sleuthing some. Not sure about Ben, her brother. He might be better off staying where he is. Could say so much more but it would all be spoilers, so I will refrain.

I enjoyed Gone Girl (Flynn's recent bestseller) so much, and was hoping for an equally riveting story from Dark Places. It was interesting and had a similar feel to be sure, but the narrator was very unlikable and the story was just not as compelling for me. For mystery lovers it does offer some interesting twists and turns, so if you want to be a super sleuth give it a go!
