Gives you a different perspective and helps you understand how in some marriages/cultures different things are accepted and tolerated. Good story.

A well written story - good book for an airplane. The story reveals motivations of the characters' behaviors from a therapist's perspective. Somewhat suspenseful with well thought out plot. In the end, Jodi's pathological denial is helpful to her.

A very rich book and great read. Would not call a psychological thriller though. It is not really a mystery. Absolutely, worth reading and way better than "Gone Girl". Author is often dead on with observations on married life.

A compelling story about a troubled marriage, told from both the husband's and the wive's perspective. This book was a bit dark but it grabbed my attention and I really enjoyed reading it.

A really wonderful suspense novel! Recognized by the Arthur Ellis awards, this book revolves around the dissolution of a marriage. The wife supports her philandering husband who in turn depends on the comfortable lifestyle she provides for him. But what happens when a secure life is threatened? Love the suspense and the writing is excellent--easy to become totally immersed in this world of Jodi and Todd. All good suspense books have a twist at the end, and this one is no exception--left me wanting more. Unfortunately, this author passed away and this is such a loss.

Did you like Gone Girl? Well put this right on your list then–Harrison’s first and only novel (she passed away last year, sadly) examines the long term partnership of Jodi and Todd. It’s told in a similar style (sometimes our main character is Jodi, sometimes it’s Todd) and as you keep turning the pages the crazy grows and grows. I’m very sad this is Harrison’s only book, I really dug it and I think I got through it in only a few days as I couldn’t put it down. So if you like relationship psychothrillers, this is a can’t miss. Also, if you read this book, I totally envisioned Jodi as Robin Wright (aka Clare Underwood on House of Cards).

Jodi and Todd have been together twenty years and their lives are monotonous. She is Miss Perfect in her person, her home, her meals, her organized life, denying any blemishes. He is a developer with a roving eye. The story is told in each of their voices quite successfully. You get a sense of them as separate people (I had a strong image of Doc Martin, of the same-name television show) as I followed Todd's clueless ruminations, and Jodi's desire to maintain the status quo far longer than she should have. This is not a thriller. You can sense the conclusion quite soon in the narrative but you want to keep reading anyway. There are some questions at the end about who actually did what - a little puzzle to keep you going. A quick read.

Summary

The story of a shaky marriage which reaches a crisis point when Todd gets his friend's daughter pregnant, and his wife Jodi is persuaded to hire a killer. Makes you reflect on the importance of communication and honesty in any relationship. I like the way it is told from both his and her perspective, and the way you don't know how it will end until the final pages.
