Opinion

From Library Staff

The biography of the orca Tilikum and his capture at age 4 (just a babe in orca world) for the marine park trade. Heartbreaking doesn't begin to describe this movie. Not meant for young viewers.

This film puts the spotlight on killer whales in captivity and challenges the audience to consider not only the impact on the animals but also on our humanity. A shocking, must-watch documentary.

Informative but rather heavy-handed film. Possibly more propaganda than documentary, although it does deal with an important issue.

So they continue to house Tillicum in his little "JAIL" just so they can get his sperm??? May karma come back to bite all involved. DISGUSTING!!!

Excellent movie. It did seem like there was a bit of an agenda, but hard to argue with the intentions of those behind it.

I just had to watch this after my Aunt raved about it. Literally had tears running down my face, this documentary is a MUST see. This broke my heart and I just wish that this would end. Taking something from its family and then putting it in a hate filled environment? Not okay on any level. Some people have no humanity. Highly recommend this movie.

Killing a whale's spirit for the sake of profit is not justifiable.
Hope more people see this documentary and boycott SeaWorld.

MUST WATCH! Great documentary.

What an incredible documentary. This doc explains in no uncertain terms why working with orcas is a terrible idea, for both the humans and the whales. The movie is barely eighty minutes but it doesn't need any longer to make its undeniable point. It dares to make you both think and feel. I was moved. SeaWorld and those like it have invented, in my mind, a new form of legalized slavery. It breaks my heart. I recommend BLACKFISH to absolutely everyone, from one to one hundred.

Oh, boy. This rock-kicking documentary brings us another example of how the current system brutalizes the natural world for profit. Worth a look, but it's not a joyful ride.

“Blackfish” is what a documentary is supposed to be: it informs and leaves you wanting to learn and do more. Don’t skip the “Special Features” of the DVD.
