Opinion

From Library Staff

Matt Damon plays Max, an oppressed L.A. underdog in a future U.S. where the social contract is less than a memory, and the elites have departed planetary hell for a paradisiacal space station, in this intense action film. The cast spans the Americas, featuring Brazilian actors Alice Braga and Wag... Read More »

This movie was well acted, but too unrealistic. For futuristic movies, there should be more realism. Does anyone really believe that this current society would let an "Elysium" exist?!! It's a really poor outlook on humanity in the future from this one.

Excellent movie. Jodie Foster gave a good performance. Matt Damon's character was truly heroic.

Very reminiscent of District 9 that being said ......pretty good movie! Thought the acting was solid. And the ratio of "duh" moments were pretty low. Intense symbolism of the immigration issues in America, which I enjoyed them displaying.

A lot better than most recent thrillers or apocalyptic themed movies. The special effects are good, and much of the plot and characterization seems realistic, in contrast to most others in this genre.

This allegory reflecting our present congressional impotence regarding serious immigration issues portrays deserved and timely sympathetic concerns for the undocumented. The actors and script were predictable but there were random moments of brilliance to warrant continued viewing. Spoilers follow: Being aged enough to actually have known people who were tattooed by the Nazi nightmares of WWII, old-toto could fully appreciate the modern tattoo techniques applied and implemented in this future world to identify and control people. The Great Southern Wall of America (How well is that multi-billion dollar extravaganza working for us?) mirrors the intent of Elysium. Old_Toto also knows of Mexican field workers with serious injuries or illnesses carried north by their coworkers beyond the border and left knowing that they would receive excellent and humane care at the Yuma Regional Medical Center before being released back to the Border Patrol.

Age-old social, political and economic issues are given a futuristic treatment in “Elysium”. A good cast and impressive cinematography make this film worth watching.

This turned out to be much better than i expected it to be overall period.Jodie Foster's performance in this movie is the best i have ever seen from her so far period.Foster's performance is a perfect example showing the political zombies in real life how the selected, not elected, real life politicians and how our elite slave masters really feel about the peasants in real life period. Our selected, not elected illegal alien USA president,Congress, and locally selected, not elected politicians are exactly like the wealthy and Jodie Foster's characters in this movie literally period.I probably would have given this 5 stars if the writer of this film would have explicitly told me how and why the planet Earth in this movie is overpopulated and polluted according to it's opinion. Our elite slave masters are LYING to us peasants about how we are overpopulating and polluting the Earth everyday, making excuses for depopulating us worldwide period.POLITICS OWNS US,BUT YOU DON'T HEAR ME THOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coarse Language: I think it'd be a good idea for the actors to wash their mouths with really strong soap.

Violence: Much like District 9, this movie is extremely heavy in the violence department. Although all the action is very well done and the effects are fantastic. This guy knows how to make a serious action movie.
