When their mother dies, Easter and Ruby are sent to a group home. Their in the process of being adopted by their maternal grandparents when their father, who they haven't seen in years and long ago signed away his paternal rights, comes back and steals them away a long with a large amount of money from a local gangster. The three of them may be on the run but it's as much about a father wanting to spend time with his daughters than it is about the money. More so than the money actually. Fast read about a father trying his best, a guardian trying to do right to make up for a kid he wronged, and someone out to even the score between himself and a guy he used to play minor league baseball with. It's a quick read and nothing beats the feel of a good Southern Gothic.
