Low-key, gritty portrayal of the lives of folks who work the traveling carnival circuit. The three lead actors were believable in the fairly simple plot; a young Jodie Foster gets the opportunity to play an adult role and she delivers. Gary Busey is wonderfully manic as a clown in the dunking tank, and Robbie Robertson coolly keeps an eye on everyone and everything around him. The supporting cast was good; including all the sideshow freaks, who were treated as regular people. This was released in 1980 but definitely has a late-70s feel to it.
