Dr. Ryan Stone is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky. On a seemingly routine spacewalk, the shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left, and the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

This BORING and NARCISSISTIC science fiction film explicitly promotes SUICIDE twice from one of the characters in it.That same character thinks they're better than the people still on the planet Earth. Not surprisingly, this film is grossly OVERRATED and OVER HYPED period,BUT I DIGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course the science is faulty, but then it's Hollywood. Suspenseful, harrowing and beautiful all at the same time. Clooney always plays himself but Bullock is very good here.

1.5 stars for visuals, minus a star for the ridiculous hype, then further minus everything but that tiny sliver of my memory about how, truly, it looked pretty good, and still felt so not worth it. wish i could thumbs-up all the snarky and "what a waste of library funds" comments here cause this film...this film! aggggh! it's so bad! flee! flee! FLEE!!! super overrated, mediocre, annoying film. suckyyyyyyyyyy

Gravity is mildly entertaining - Clooney enters the Soyaz Escape Capusel in full rig space suit while Bullock is wearing Little more more than her birth suite. The reality of space physics would have sucked Bullock, extruded is better word, from the escape pod and left her body an elongate mass of interconnected organs and connective tissue. In he movie George simply enters the capsule in full space walk uniform and nothing happens Bullock should have immediately died that been extruded from the capsule as a fine elongate strip of protoplasm.Reality was never a strong point of Hollywood . 2001 A Space Oddoesy is a better choice for plausable outterspace thriller on a cold winters night.

This movie has some of the best visual effects I've ever seen and the sound effects are likewise brilliant. But seeing Sandra Bullock floating around in space for over an hour was a bit tedious. It deserved to win the "Visual Effects" and "Sound Mixing" Oscars, but not the other 5 (Best Director, Best Cinematography, etc).

This movie was nothing more than Sandra Bullock floating around in space, screaming, and running into stuff. I know some people are saying it was good for the sounds, or technology used to make the film. However when I watch a movie I watch it to enjoy it, not to say that the effects were good. This movie really didn't have much of a plot, and it was boring.

Visually interesting, but the story and characters weren't compelling. I thought the best part was the special short on how they filmed it--that was fascinating!

Wow -- this was an incredible movie! Although some aspects don't seem realistic in terms of the science, I realized that space was really a metaphor for different aspects of Ryan's condition. At first, space represents being involuntarily and dangerously isolated from those she had depended on, from loss of all communications with Houston to the loss of her fellow astronauts. But then there's a moment when space also represents a welcome slide into oblivion, a quiet giving up of having to fight to live. Sometimes (esp in the beginning) Sandra Bullock irritated me, but by the end, I was drawn into her character and the story. George Clooney is also excellent. An amazing, powerful movie, harrowing as well as inspiring!

Wow -- Loved the special effects. Story had a lot of holes in it -- but one really needed to flow with the tale rather than scrutinize it.

To me it was an uplifting story about how a woman got a grip and came into her own.

The last scene where she reblesses her life on earth felt really real and fantastic. Sandra Bullock did a great job.

This is a 2013 science fiction thriller directed, co-written, co-produced and co-edited by Alfonso Cuarón.
It depicts the mid-orbit destruction of their space shuttle and their subsequent attempt to return to Earth.
The British company Framestore spent more than three years creating most of the film's visual effects, which comprise over 80 of its 91 minutes.
The 144-minute "Making of Gravity" is a fascinating, amazing yet entertaining documentary you would love to enjoy.
Although the story is a simple and straightforward, it is a gripping and suspenseful film.
