This illustration provides a fascinating and moving depiction of this notorious battle. Mr. Sacco uses the cartoon format to give historically accurate detail, some of which is explained by comments on a small scale version of the drawing in the booklet. This is not another graphic novel--you can and will unfold the 24 feet of this drawing across the whole room and down the hallway. Of course, that means that you will want to read this with friends, and the experience of together holding this one day of war is quite moving.

Highly recommended as a way to introduce the horror of war, to learn the mechanics of supply and coordination and commitment that are needed to make something like this happen, and to inspire greater understanding of the need to strive for peace.
