More interesting than I thought it would be but dry in spots. it provides a more vivid account of the occupation of Paris and its liberation by focusing on the Ritz Hotel. I learned much more than I knew before as a result but did not have much sympathy for those who continued to live a life of luxury while others suffered so much..

An intriguing look at a piece of history through the eyes of European history rather than American history. At first I was concerned that it was a little "People" magazine as the author recounts some of the antics of colorful and flamboyant german high ranking officials, starlets, journalists, photographers and socialites. Then the gems of history often not taught here were revealed. The secret plots, the espionage at the bar and the political climate of the French pre and post WWII are told in a manner that just grips and leaves one shaking their head in disbelief. Great summer read!
