Alexander Price is a member of a cryptozoological lineage that spans generations and it's his job to act as a buffer between the human and cryptid worlds--not an easy task when you're dealing with women who has snakes in place of hair, little girls who may actually be cobras, and brilliant, beautiful Australian zookeepers. And then there's the matter of the murders. Alex thought he was choosing the easier career when he decided to specialize in non-urban cryptids, leaving the cities to his little sister, Verity. He had no idea what he was letting himself in for. It's a family affair, and everyone, from his reanimated grandfather to his slightly broken telepathic cousin, is going to find themselves drawn in before things get any better.

I am have been a huge Seanan McGuire fan since stumbling upon the News Flesh (by pen name Mira Grant) series! It still remains among the top of my favs. I've read every printed work she's published since. The October Daye series will drag you in, as urban fantasy fans. Her newest series, INCRYPTID, was good - at first. The books with Verity, the female lead, are worth your time. But stop there.

This book changes to a male lead, Alex. There are so many disappointments in this book. All INCRYPTID fans love the Aeslin Mice. They make barely an appearance here. Alex, due to the nature of his work, is stuck in a stationery location in, of all the exciting places, Ohio. Yes. The most action is him running. Simply running. He runs less than my lazy dog does in one trip outside. There is not even a daunting villain. New cryptid species that are introduced are too few and, well, dull.

Unfortunately, the next book in the series will also be Alex as the lead. If Seanan McGuire would add the enjoyment and humor of the Aeslin Mice, a greater variety of new cryptid species, and some action, I would be willing to read the next book.
