Zero Hour
It is called zero point energy, and it really exists - a state of energy contained in all matter everywhere, and thus all but unlimited. Nobody has ever found a way to tap into it, however - until one scientist discovers a way. Or at least he thinks he has. The problem is, his machines also cause great earthquakes, even fissures in tectonic plates. One machine is buried deep underground; the other is submerged in a vast ocean trench. If Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala and the rest of the NUMA team aren't able to find and destroy them, and soon, the world will be on the threshold of a new era of earth tremors and unchecked volcanism.

Zero Hour --- by --- Clive Cussler. So how many books has Cussler written? A quadrillion. And how many have been sold and read? A mega gigga quadrillion. How come? ‘Cause we eat ‘em up like addicts. ‘Cause we can’t kick the Cussler habit. Great literature they’re not. They don’t rank up there with Romeo and Juliet. Nor are the chick-lit or insightful philosophy. But the Cussler addicts know that already. With him you get advanture and action; things get blown up and they are sent to the bottom of the sea; the bad guys are brought to justice or a nasty end. If they were films they would star Sylvester Stallone or John Wayne (posthumously). They are sanitized: no sex, just lots of violence (of the nicest kind --- whatever that means) The read is quick and non-taxing: just the time it gets from Toronto to Montreal --- faster if you don’t move your lips. Great escapist fodder.

"When a scientist discovers a possible way to tap an unlimited energy source using machines that cause massive earthquakes, Kurt Austin, Joe Zavala and their NUMA teammates race against time to locate the scientist's machines underground and in a vast ocean trench to prevent catastrophic disasters. Co-written by the best-selling author of Poseidon's Arrow." July 2013 Thrillers and Suspense newsletter

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you.
